Colouring Sigillum Dei Aemeth
Watercolour
I was recently commissioned by Strange Attractor Press to colour the Sigil Dei Aemeth diagram according to Ithell Colquhoun's wishes. Colquhoun (1906–1988), a British surrealist painter, writer, and occultist, has been a consistent inspiration to me.

Ithell suggested that using aquarelle colours would be more effective than watercolours, but I used watercolours as they are my preferred medium. I also created a computer-coloured version of the drawing, which gave me more control over the hues. Ithell was always very precise about color and its meaning.
I undertook some research before colouring the sigils to find the exact representation Ithell refers to in her essay ‘Colour and the Two Sigils’. They appear on pages 28–29 of Hermeric Journal No. 2 (1978). Luckily, all issues of Hermeric Journal are available via the Internet Archive. Feel free to print and colour them yourself!
